I know it's cool how Marble Slab have a vast variety of mix-ins which you can incorporate into your ice cream like fresh fruit, cereals, nuts, cookies, candies, etc., but in terms of the quality of their ice cream, I would much prefer Ed's Real Scoop or Greg's Ice Cream. The ice cream I had at Marble Slab this time was not creamy at all, too soft, and was already melting in my hands right after I paid for it. Not only was I not pleased with the ice cream itself, the waffle cone was hard, chewy, and pretty much STALE. I love waffle cone and I order waffle cone pretty much every time I have ice cream, so I know my waffle cone. I'm pretty sure it's the worse waffle cone I've ever had.
Let's talk about the store first. Besides the ice cream, the place was nice. It was very spacious and clean.
The menus and options were clearly displayed.
Marble Slab has a decent variety of ice-cream available.
The different waffle cone options.
And last but not least, their endless selection of mix-ins: Gummy bears, Graham Crackers, Rainbow Sparkles, Chocolate Sparkles, Miniature Marshmallows, Nerds, Oreo Cookies....
M&M's, Reese's Pieces, Smarties...and so on and so forth.
Firstly, the ice cream is scooped out and measured on one of these scales.
The ice cream is then flattened out and the mix-ins are placed in the middle.
Lastly, the physical mixing of the ice cream and the mix-ins.
When all was done, the ice cream was scooped into the waffle cone.
After I was done paying for it, I had to quickly take a few bites of the ice cream because it started melting very quickly. And folks, you all know from this blog that I'm a big "picture-foodie" and I NEVER EVER eat something BEFORE taking a picture, but this time, I had no choice but to make an exception because of the melting! The ice cream was already dripping down the cone, and as you can see, I was still INSIDE Marble Slab.
The taste of the ice cream was good, nothing spectacular, but it was the texture of the ice cream that I did not like at all. It was not creamy like how ice cream should be... it was almost watery. It was melting so quick that I felt stressedl eating it because I couldn't enjoy it as I tried to keep up with the melting. After I was done, my hands were all sticky.
Secondly, the waffle cone was thick, hard, and stale. It got worse and worse towards the bottom of the waffle cone as it merged together at the tip. Horrible! I wonder if the stacks and stacks of pre-made waffle cones pictured below have anything to do with it? How long do they keep them there for anyway?
To be fair, I must point out that my boyfriend's ice cream did not melt at the speed that mine did. He had a scoop of cookie dough ice cream with oreo cookie crumbs as a mixin and he liked it. I'm thinking maybe the person who prepared mine didn't mix fast enough, being the reason why by the time I got it it was already melting. But still, his waffle cone was the same deal, thick and hard.
Anyway, not sure when I will go to Marble Slab again, if ever. For the price of their ice cream, it is not worth it in my opinion. I'd rather have better quality ice cream than have the option of all those mix-in choices.
