After our dinner at Le P'tit Plateau, my boyfriend and I walked over to Rockaberry for dessert. Mind you, I was a bit weary about having pies for dessert because I'm usually a waffle / crepe / ice cream person, but I was determined to try Rockaberry because it's a local Montreal chain. Here are some facts: 1) Rockaberry was first opened in 1989, 2) it now has 5 locations in and around Montreal, and 3) It's been ranked #1 five times as "Best dessert/sweets" category for Montreal Mirror's annual "Best of Montreal" issue. So although pies are not my "thing", I thought Rockaberry deserves a visit.
The pies are showcased immediately once you walk in.
This is the view from our table. There is a second floor too.
Rockaberry actually serves not only dessert pies, but also salads, soups, bagels, sandwiches, wraps, pizzas, and pastas. The pies can be ordered per slice or whole (usually for take-out).
Eeek! Which one should I get? |
I was debating between Strawberry Shortcake, Oreo Cheese, Rockabrownie, and Toblerone Cheese. I finally decided on Rockabrownie. We also ordered a rootbeer float while waiting....haven't had one of these in AGES!
My Rockabrownie pie came, and it totally exceeded my expectations. I guess in my mind, I always associate pie to be very very filling and heavy, and I would feel totally stuffed afterwards. But this particular piece I ordered was so soft and fluffy; very very light and not heavy at all. It was not overly sweet, and the crust was so deliciously chewy. My boyfriend and I shared this, and if I knew the pies were this good, I wouldv'e ordered another slice to try a different flavor!
